The diocesan Office of Youth Ministry is calling all 8th graders and high school students in the Diocese of Tucson to create original artwork reflecting on the Catholic virtue of Hope. Compete for the chance to win a trip to NCYC in Long Beach, CA, and see your artwork printed on postcards.
Guidelines
Teens 8th through 12th grades are invited to create a drawing or illustration that communicates the Catholic virtue of hope. The artwork should reflect themes such as the Works of Mercy, prayer, life in community, the celebration of the sacraments, Pope Francis, church life, youth participation in the church, and so on. Participants are encouraged to illustrate examples from life and to explore scripture and tradition for further inspiration and guidance.
Submission Requirements
Medium: The artwork can be created using any traditional materials (e.g., pencil, ink, paint, etc.) or digital.
Size: The artwork must be no smaller than postcard 4 x 6, and no larger than 11 x 14 inches. We recommend letter size (8.5 x 11 inches)
Originality: All submissions must be original works created by the participant. Plagiarism or AI-generated images are strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.
Catholic References: Participants are encouraged to learn more about Bible references and Catholic theology that align with the catholic virtue of hope.
Eligibility
• The participants must be in 8th grade or High School, and not older than 18 yo.
• Participants must belong to the Diocese of Tucson, Arizona.
• Participants can submit up to two pieces of artwork.
Submission Process
Digital Submission: If the artwork is created digitally, it should be submitted as a high-resolution image (300 dpi) in JPEG or PNG format. If the artwork is created traditionally, it should be scanned or photographed in high resolution and submitted in JPEG or PNG format.
• While physical submission is not required, we encourage you to keep the original artwork at least until the end of 2025.
Judging Criteria
• Theme: Effective incorporation of life references and Catholic themes towards the virtue of hope.
• Creativity: The originality and artistic expression in the work.
• Technical Skill: The quality and craftsmanship demonstrated in the artwork.
• Age group: Participants’ work will be judged in accordance with their age group.Prizes
• The top 3 winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Long Beach, California, on November 14-18.
• Honorary Selections: Additional participants may be recognized as honorary selections.
• To qualify for the prize, winners must be able to travel to California and comply with the trip guidelines. A winner who may not be able to travel will still hold their place; however, the trip option may be offered to one of the honorary winners.
• The artwork of the winners will be printed on diocesan postcards, providing additional recognition and exposure for their work.

Terms and Conditions
• By submitting artwork, participants grant the Diocese of Tucson the right to display, publish, or reproduce the works for promotional purposes, including printing on diocesan postcards, without monetary compensation.
• The organizers reserve the right to reject submissions that do not adhere to the guidelines or with inappropriate content.
• The trip to NCYC is contingent upon the winner’s ability to meet the travel guidelines and requirements set by the organizers.
